Synopsis - The two characters Gary Valentine and Alana Kane become close friends after meeting each other through a high school photoshoot. Gary, enamored with Alana, invites her out to dinner to which she accepts. After that they start to do everything together from acting to selling waterbeds. Gary starts up a little waterbed business and works with Alana, his theater friends and family to make some extra cash. Together, the two meet people throughout San Fernando Valley. Gary follows the older Alana and vice versa. Alana dates several guys who hit on her which makes Gary jealous so he in turn does things to make her upset like hanging around with other girls. Eventually they two both get angry and split up to go do their own things. Alana volunteering for at a politician's workplace and Gary starting a new pinball business. However, it doesn't last long, and Gary and Alana find themselves searching for each other once more.
While creating sketches for a new poster of Licorice Pizza I thought about the details that struck out to me most throughout the movie. To me it was their personalities and time period like the hair, the clothes, personalities etc. I wanted to combine the busy thoughts of Alana Kana and the enamoured ones of Gary Valentine. I settled on dripping silhouettes of the two whilst portraying what was going on inside their minds.
